In the summer of 1920 the Daniel Boone Council, Boy Scouts of America was organized by a group of members of the Asheville Rotary Club. The original charter was submitted in September 1920. The council was incorporated on April 4, 1932. It was incorporated in the State of North Carolina under the laws and regulations concerning non-profit organizations.
The council covers fourteen counties in Western North Carolina: Avery, Buncombe, Cherokee, Clay, Graham, Haywood, Henderson, Jackson, Macon, Madison, Mitchell, Swain, Transylvania and Yancey. The counties are focused into five different districts served by five District Executives and one Scout Executive.
In 1939 the Lee Ellis Boy Scout Reservation was purchased and Camp Daniel Boone was established on the property. It is located in Haywood County approximately 14 miles south of Canton. It serves more than 4,000 scouts annually during summer camp and several thousand more on weekend outings.
The scout service center has been located at 333 West Haywood Street since 2003. It had been on Weaver Boulevard since 1964. The service center supports more than 170 units and 5,000 scouts annually.
